The Story So Far

“Of One Belief” is made up of GAA people, men and women, who agree with what’s said on our About Us Page. We came together in a concerted opposition to the pay-for-play proposals that Central Council’s fateful decision of 8 December 2007 was going to foist on us.

Well over 1,000 GAA people registered on this site as a result … something more than “a small rump of malcontents”!  They came from every County in Ireland as well as Britain; Europe; North America; and Australia. By registering they “signed up” to what we’re about.

We did try to keep in touch with all those people by emailing out Circulars every one or two weeks. But because we’re totally volunteer-based (not a grant about the place!) we just couldn’t sustain that. All the Circulars that were sent out are posted on the site under News Archives. From here on we’ll continue to base our work on this site alone.

“Of One Belief” didn’t succeed in its initial aim of preventing the pay-for-play grants. And we don’t fool ourselves about that. But at least we didn’t let that poisonous decision go by default. We generated a debate which, to their shame, our then GAA leadership didn’t want to take place and tried to thwart.

We do get the impression that the combination of Ireland’s economic woes and the GAA’s 125 year have led a lot of people to properly appraise what the GAA is and what it contributes to our country. And they’re almost all concluding that the recent infatuation by some GAA people with the “price of everything and the value of nothing” has sold everybody bar a very elite few short.

Well, we intend to unashamedly remain on the value side of the equation!
